Fragrance-Free Skin Care

What Is Fragrance Free? Fragrance free is an unregulated term. Usually (and at this site), it means the product has no ingredients added solely to give it a fragrance.
All products have some odor from the base materials of the product. Especially if the product contains essential oils (for example, lavender), it may have a distinct floral, herbal, or citrus odor and still be labeled "fragrance free." Check the View Ingredients & Fragrance link for each product for this information.
From the label: "For face, hands, body and hair. This all purpose cleanser is made with the highest quality ingredients for chemical and fragrance sensitive individuals."
The Mayo Clinic recommends "unscented products with sarcosinates, sulfosuccinates and cocoamphodiacetates" (see the Mayo Clinic web site article titled "Dry Skin" at www.mayoclinic.com). This simple, extremely gentle, and effective formula uses sodium sarcosinate. A thin gel that lathers up moderately and leaves skin clean and soft. It's listed for use as a shampoo, too, but it doesn't lather much as a shampoo.
Botanical Skin Works Sensitive Skin Bar, 4.5 oz (145 g)
From the marketing material: The founder of Botanical Skin Works created this bar for persons with multiple chemical sensitivities. She describes her bar: "I kept this bar as simple as possible while ensuring that it was rich in moisture. There are no essential oils in this bar, no hydrosols, flowers, buds, seeds, etc. It is made from pure goat's milk."
Botanical Skin Works Eczema Safe Face & Body Bar, 4.5 oz (145 g)
From the marketing material: "Excellent for [those with] eczema, psoriasis, diabetes, and very dry skin. ... This bar is soothing to irritated skin. Regular use of this bar will help to reduce dryness, itching and irritation that is associated with eczema and other skin conditions."
The soaps naturally retain their glycerin because of the unique way they are made. They also have emollients, including shea, cocoa, and kukui nut butters, for even more moisturizing and conditioning.
From the label: "Gently erases dead and dry surface cells with the silkiness of jojoba and the help of all-spherical jojoba beads (esters). Helps improve texture and increases the effectiveness of moisturizers. Leaves skin feeling smooth, uncovering 'new skin' cells. This product is highly recommended for use when using any alpha or beta hydroxy product such as Devita High Performance AHA ...or on any acne treatment program."
From the label: "Devita Acne Solution Pads are formulated with Salicylic Acid, an effective method of acne control. It is designed to penetrate pores to remove residual dirt, oil and make-up, while working to help prevent the development of new acne blemishes. Safe formulation using Aloe Vera Gel and Witch Hazel eliminating any alcohols."
Now with Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 to increase collagen synthesis, and Argireline®, sometimes called the natural Botox.®

Formerly called Daytime Nutritional Moisturizer. The new formula is close to the original Daytime Nutritional Moisturizer, with the added peptides. Peptides are probably the most promising new development in skin care. Tripeptide-5 can increase collagen synthesis, plumping out the skin from within. Argirilene® blocks transmission of signals that cause facial muscles to contract; the effect is similar to that of Botox, but less dramatic.
